Bank robbery suspect gets shot by officers in downtown Covington on Friday afternoon

A man suspected of being involved in an armed bank robbery in Covington was shot while officers tried to detain him Friday.

The Covington Police Department said they were called on a report of a robbery with a gun at the U.S. Bank in the 600 block of Madison Avenue at 3:01 p.m.

Less than a block away, officers found a man matching the suspect’s description and tried to detain him, Covington police said in a news release.

“During the encounter, shots were fired,” the release states.

The man, identified by Kentucky State Police as Charles Davis, of Covington, was taken to the UC Medical Center. State police said in a news release late Friday that Davis’ injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, and he was in stable condition. No officers were injured.

Covington police said two officers who were involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.

Part of Madison Avenue was closed while police investigated.
