A London woman was arrested and charged with murder after police say they found her mother dead of multiple gunshot wounds Friday night.

Laurel County sheriff’s deputies found the body of Carol Rich when they were called to a shooting at a home off Burnett Road, about 7 miles southeast of London, at about 9:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Rich’s daughter, Brianna Rich, 26, was arrested and taken to the Laurel County Correctional Center.

The sheriff’s department said a 9 mm pistol was recovered at the scene.

They said they have not determined a motive for the shooting.

An obituary described Carol Rich, 50, as “a down to earth country girl who made friends with everyone.”

“Her high-spirited and outgoing nature made her a joy to be around, and she was always busy making anything she put her mind to,” the obituary stated. “Carol’s heart of gold and her love for her grandchildren were evident in the time she spent teaching them about life.”
