Woman dies from injuries caused by car crashing in Lexington apartment building
A Lexington woman died after she was struck by a car that crashed into an apartment complex in the Tates Creek area.
Mary Downs, 55, of Lexington, died Friday from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn.
Downs was one of two individuals transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital after a car struck an apartment building near the 3700 block of Camelot Drive around 5 p.m. Friday.
Officers with the Lexington Police Department were dispatched for a single vehicle collision with building, according to Lt. Nick Whitcomb.
When they arrived, they found a vehicle halfway inside the structure, Whitcomb said. Downs, who was inside the building when the car struck, and another individual were transported to the hospital. The other individual, who police did not identify, was treated for minor injuries.
The police department’s collision reconstruction unit is investigating the incident, but no criminal charges are expected against the driver.
The Lexington Fire Department cleared the building for occupancy.
