KY man charged with murder after 87-year-old stabbed to death during robbery
A Kentucky man has been charged with murder after an 87-year-old man was killed during a robbery, according to the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened Sunday near Barren Fork Road. The victim, identified as Roland Sumler, was found lying on the road with several stab wounds. A bystander was giving Sumler medical aid when deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of the deputies on scene, Alex Jones, was able to restore Sumler’s pulse, according to the sheriff’s office. But Sumler later died at a hospital.
Deputies identified the suspect as 51-year-old William Shadoan, according to the sheriff’s office. Court documents said he fled in Sumler’s vehicle, which was later found by Kentucky State Police troopers in Pulaski County.
Shadoan crashed Sumler’s vehicle, according to court documents. He was arrested and charged with murder and first-degree robbery, according to the sheriff’s office.
A knife was found near Shadoan at the scene of the collision, according to court documents. He declined to talk to troopers and instead cursed about the situation.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said KSP is investigating the related charges from Pulaski County crash.
