Man shot and killed after shooting police officer in Eastern Kentucky. KSP investigating
A Vanceburg man was killed by police after he shot a deputy from Lewis County, according to Kentucky State Police.
Keith Truesdell, 49, died at the University of Kentucky Hospital Wednesday, according to Fayette Coroner Gary Ginn. His manner of death was ruled a homicide from a gunshot wound.
Deputies from the Lewis Counties Sheriff’s Office and Vanceburg Police Department responded to a domestic violence call on Little Cabin Creek Tuesday night.
Reports indicated Truesdell was shooting a firearm.
Officers encountered Truesdell who fired at officers and struck one, according to Kentucky State Police. The deputy was not identified.
Multiple deputies fired their agency-issued firearms at Truesdell who was transported to UK with life-threatening injuries and later died. None of the officers’ involved in the shooting were identified.
As a result of the gunfire exchange the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and has since been released.
No other injuries have been reported. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has been requested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office to investigate.
