Kentucky woman charged with trying to light husband on fire during argument

A Kentucky woman is facing several charges after police say she tried to light her husband on fire during an argument.

The incident happened just after noon Saturday at a home on Sweet Gum Drive in Richmond. Court documents say Tina Marshall, 40, and her husband were arguing over finances when the argument got heated and Marshall got violent.

Marshall’s husband told investigators he tried to separate from Marshall, but she grabbed a lighter and threatened to burn the house down, according to court documents. She then held the flame next to her husband’s body and tried to light him on fire.

Marshall also punched her husband multiple times on the back of his head and kicked a phone out of his hand, causing the phone to hit her husband’s face and scratch under his eyebrow, according to court documents.

Marshall then grabbed a pair of scissors and cut up her husband’s clothes. Marshall also put her husband in a choke hold and squeezed with “everything that she had,” court documents say.

Marshall’s husband told investigators he couldn’t breathe at that point, but he was able to quickly escape, according to court documents.

While attempting to call 911, Marshall grabbed another pair of scissors and threatened to kill her husband, according to court documents. The husband sat out on the front porch until police arrived.

Marshall is charged with first-degree attempted arson, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, kidnapping, first-degree strangulation, third-degree terroristic threatening and menacing, according to court records.

Her arrest citation says she told authorities she only remembered shoving her husband and that she “blacks out” occasionally when she gets mad.

Marshall’s bond is set at $50,000, according to court records.
