Police track Kentucky trucker by GPS on rig, arrest him on rape, other charges
Police arrested a Kentucky truck driver on rape and other charges after the company he worked for helped track him through GPS, Laurel County Sheriff John Root said in a news release.
Investigators had obtained a warrant for Andrew Hedrick, 39, of London, but he was on the road.
The sheriff’s office contacted the trucking company, which turned on the GPS unit in the truck Hedrick was in, allowing officers to track him, according to the release.
Root saw Hedrick heading south on Interstate 75 near Berea, but he abruptly turned around and headed north, away from London, the release said.
Police continued to track Hedrick’s vehicle, and officers from the Kentucky State Police, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgetown Police Department took him into custody Friday evening near a business off I-75 in Scott County, according to the release.
Hedrick is charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under age 12, Root said.
Police said the victim had allegedly been sexually abused for about seven years.
