Police in Eastern KY looking for man facing federal charges who escaped from custody

UPDATE: Anthony Martinez was captured by the Morehead Police Department on May 8, 2025.

Police in Eastern Kentucky are searching for a man wanted on federal charges after he recently escaped from custody, according to the Morehead Police Department.

Anthony Martinez was last seen near the Boot Ranch by Main Street and KY 32, Morehead police said. He escaped from UK-St. Claire Hospital in Morehead, while in the custody of Rowan County jail guards.

Police did not immediately say when the escape happened or what charges Martinez faced Tuesday morning. Police asked people in the downtown Morehead area to check their security surveillance system beginning at 3 a.m. Tuesday for any Martinez sightings or information that could help the investigation.

Martinez may be considered dangerous and people are not encouraged to approach him if spotted, Morehead police said. Anyone who sees Martinez should immediately call 911.
