Kentucky man accused of biting ear off girlfriend’s cat during domestic dispute
A Kentucky man bit off a cat’s ear during a domestic dispute, according to a criminal citation.
Zachary L. Rollins, 22, is charged with one count of torture of a cat or dog, a Class D felony punishable by one to five years in prison.
After the initial charge, a deputy obtained a warrant charging Rollins with two more counts of torture of a cat or dog for allegedly causing the death of two other cats in early April, according to a release from Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones.
Rollins listed a Russell Springs address, but the alleged domestic dispute happened at a home in Burnside, in Pulaski County.
Deputy Noah Dishman said in a citation he was dispatched May 10 to investigate a report of domestic violence and that the caller said her boyfriend was drunk and had bitten off one of her cat’s ears.
When Dishman arrived, he found Rollins in a bed trying to hide under the blankets and ultimately arrested him, according to the citation.
Rollins’ girlfriend provided photos of the injured cat and screenshots of Facebook messages in which Rollins told his mother he bit off the cat’s ear after it bit him, the deputy said in the citation.
Rollins told the deputy he didn’t bite the cat, but had “tossed” it after it bit him.
The citation available online did not include details on the alleged deaths of the two cats in April.
Rollins was in the Pulaski County Detention Center Monday in lieu of a total $50,000 bond on the three torture charges.
His bond conditions include random drug testing and an order not to possess or be around animals, according to the court docket.
