Irvine man found fatally shot in car by unknown suspect, state police say

Kentucky State Police are investigating a murder that took place inside a vehicle in Jackson County Sunday afternoon.

Troopers were contacted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department regarding a dead man inside a car on Richardson Road in McKee, Kentucky.

Investigators found James D. Carmack, 40, of Irvine, in the car with a gunshot wound. Police said Carmack was shot by an unknown individual who fled the scene before police arrived.

Kentucky State Police troopers, detectives and Jackson County Coroner Lonnie Hacker responded to the area.

An autopsy will be performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, police said.
