Lexington police officers arrested a wanted social worker from Michigan with the help of camera technology, according to the police department.

The wanted man, 26-year-old Dequindre Wiggins of Grand Rapids, Michigan, was found at the Tru by Hilton University Medical Center on Waller Avenue, according to police. He was wanted on charges of accosting a minor for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime out of Kent County in Michigan.

Wiggins is a social worker and worked at Valleywood Middle School, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. On May 9 a parent reported inappropriate contact between Wiggins and her child, and investigators determined Wiggins had additional contact with other juveniles over online platforms.

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Wiggins Wednesday. Lexington police said the department’s real-time intelligence center and Flock license plate reader system helped locate Wiggins’ vehicle in the hotel’s parking lot that same day.

Wiggins is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center. Jail records show he has waived extradition

“We thank the City of Lexington Police Department for their swift and professional assistance in apprehending Wiggins and supporting this investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
