Assistant manager of Lexington apartment complex accused of cashing forged checks

A Lexington man has been accused of cashing numerous forged checks that were supposed to go to an apartment complex he managed, according to court documents.

On March 18, the Lexington Police Department received a report from managers of the Fifteen51 apartment complex on Aristides Boulevard alleging a former assistant manager, 30-year-old Christopher Neal, had improperly allocated funds intended for the business.

Court documents say investigators found multiple irregularities of money orders that were documented as move-in specials when the tenants weren’t eligible for the special.

Investigators obtained a warrant to search Neal’s bank records and found 42 checks or money orders related to tenant payments that were altered and deposited into his account, according to court documents. The alleged activity happened for just over a two-month period in early 2025.

Neal spoke with investigators on April 29 and admitted to altering the checks or money orders before depositing them, according to court documents. The apartment complex’s management company reported a financial loss of $42,027.69.

Neal is charged with 35 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and one count of theft by deception of $10,000 or more.
