Man stabbed to death in Lexington. Teen charged with murder

A man was stabbed to death Wednesday in Lexington, and a teen was charged with murder in the killing, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The stabbing happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 500 block of Douglas Avenue. Lexington police said officers found a man with a stab wound, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The victim was identified as 67-year-old Freddie Richmond Lynem Jr., according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

A 16-year-old was arrested and charged with murder, first-degree robbery, tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property Thursday, police said.

All subjects have been identified, and there are no outstanding suspects, said Hannah Sloan, public information officer with the Lexington police.

Police did not identify the suspect, who is currently being held at a juvenile detention center.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is encouraged to call Lexington police at 859-258-3600. Police are asking people in the area to review their surveillance footage in case it may help with the investigation.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers by calling 859-253-2020 or by filling out an anonymous online form.

This is the ninth Lexington homicide of 2025, according to police data. It’s the first fatal stabbing since Don Marshall, 46, stabbed 53-year-old Robert Wallace Jr. to death on Bryan Avenue in October 2022.

Marshall was sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter — a charge amended down from murder — and tampering with physical evidence, according to court records.
