A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 63-year-old man in Perry County Monday.

The teen shot Wallace Cornett “at close range with a shotgun” inside a home in the 1900 block of Middle Fork of Maces Creek Road just before 2 p.m., the Perry County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cornett lived on Robert Brashear Road in Viper, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

Viper is a small, unincorporated community about 125 miles southeast of Lexington.
