A husband and wife in Harlan County died Tuesday in a murder-suicide shooting, according to Kentucky State Police.

The shooting happened just after 2:15 p.m. at a home in the Closplint community of Harlan County. State police said there was a domestic altercation, and the woman was fatally shot while fleeing the residence.

The man then shot himself on the front porch, state police said. Harlan County coroner John Derrick Noe identified the victims as Lawrence Shackleford, 72, and Estelle Shackleford, 54.

The victims were declared dead at 3:50 p.m., according to the coroner. They have been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
