KY man killed in shootout with police after domestic violence call

A man was killed in a shootout with a Shelby County sheriff’s deputy during a domestic violence call early Monday, according to Kentucky State Police.

Sheriff’s deputies were called around 1 a.m. Monday to a home on Blackwell Road in Shelbyville for a domestic violence incident.

Deputies found Ryan McBride, 41, and a woman outside the home. McBride opened fire on a deputy, hitting the deputy’s equipment and causing an injury, according to KSP.

The same deputy, not yet identified, returned fire, killing McBride.

McBride was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy was taken to a hospital and was released later Monday.

No other injuries were reported. KSP is investigating the incident.
