14-year-old charged with shooting at KY high school football game

A teen boy has been charged with a shooting that left a man injured Friday at a high school football game in Western Kentucky.

The 14-year-old Fulton boy is charged with first-degree assault after Mayfield police police say he shot an 18-year-old from Farmington during the fourth quarter of a football game between Mayfield and Graves County.

The shooting happened after a fight in the parking lot of Mayfield’s War Memorial Stadium in Graves County, police said.

The shooting victim suffered serious injuries to his arm and upper torso and was taken to a hospital in Nashville, Tenn., police said. He is stable.

Video of the shooting’s aftermath, widely shared online, showed players running off the field and the stands being evacuated amid a chaotic scene as gunshots rang out at the crowded stadium.

The teen suspect is being held at a detention center. Police did not release his name. because he is a juvenile.

Mayfield is south of Paducah, about 265 miles southwest of Lexington.
