A Harlan County man faces multiple charges after police say he shot at officers who responded to a domestic dispute in the Eastern Kentucky town.

Stacey Huff, 51, is charged with fourth-degree assault and two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer after a police standoff Saturday night.

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the Closplint community where a “highly intoxicated” Huff was holding family members at knifepoint, police said.

Huff also threatened the family with a gun, and when police responded, they found his family members walking across a bridge near the home.

Deputy Jesse Howard and Evarts Assistant Police Chief Bryan Napier identified themselves to Huff, who then shot at the officers. Neither officer was injured, police said.

After an hourlong negotiation, Huff surrendered to police around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

He was taken into custody without incident, police said. He is being lodged at the Harlan County Detention Center.

Closplint is about 175 miles southeast of Lexington.
