Kentucky State Police are searching for an inmate who escaped the custody of the Madison County Detention Center Saturday.

Ester J. Stevenson, 34, of Corbin, walked away from the Bluegrass Career and Development Center in Richmond just before 9:30 a.m. Aug. 30, according to a news release from KSP.

Stevenson is described as a 6-foot-1 white man, according to the agency. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, grey sweatpants and a white hat. He has several tattoos on his chest and arms.

He was serving a sentence for first-degree trafficking of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Anyone who has information about Stevenson’s whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or KSP at 859-623-2404. Stevenson is known to frequent Knox, Corbin, Woodbine and surrounding counties.

He is at least the fifth Madison County inmate to escape the center in 16 months.

The center, the Bluegrass Career Development Center, exists to give inmates job training and help them rejoin society after incarceration. It’s located next to a regional recycling facility on Recycle Drive in Richmond. It has 88 beds and was built by a charitable corporation with the recycling facility, which is contracted with the Kentucky Department of Corrections to provide housing, care and programming for qualified state inmates, parolees and probationers.

The level of security associated with the center is unknown.
