An 18-year-old man in Lexington was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left two juveniles injured, according to court documents.

The shooting happened Aug. 20 in the area of Chestnut Ridge Drive. Court documents say two juveniles, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, were shot multiple times and taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

The victims were found at two separate houses, but were shot in the same incident, court documents indicated. They were interviewed by detectives at the hospital, but did not provide many details about what happened.

The 16-year-old was interviewed again six days later after detectives gathered “several important pieces” of evidence. The juvenile told detectives the 15-year-old juvenile injured in the shooting and two 18-year-old suspects were the ones who shot them.

One of the 18-year-old suspects, Jaycion Higgins, was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree assault and is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center, according to jail records.

Authorities are looking for the other suspect, identified as Anazjae Patton, 18. Court documents say a warrant for first-degree assault has been filed.

A warrant for first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a minor was also filed for the 15-year-old juvenile, according to court documents.

Both Higgins and Patton were featured as the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers’ wanted persons of the week Sept. 14.

Court documents say the three suspects aggressively surrounded the 16-year-old after receiving a group text, and the 15-year-old shot the 16-year-old in the stomach. The 16-year-old ran away, and Higgins and Patton fired shots at them as they fled.

Detectives reviewed neighborhood surveillance footage, which corroborated the 16-year-old’s story. Court documents say Bluegrass Crime Stoppers received two tips that identified Higgins, Patton and the 15-year-old as the suspects.

Detectives also reviewed a cellphone found at the scene of the shooting. Court documents say the phone likely belonged to Patton, and it had a message sent by Higgins three minutes before the shooting reportedly saying to “shoot the thriller.”

Higgins is scheduled to appear in Fayette District Court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, according to court records. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
