A man armed with a rifle and a hammer disrupted an event at a Lexington skate park Saturday afternoon, then barricaded himself inside a nearby home, police said.

The Lexington Police Department was called to Berry Hill Park on Buckhorn Drive at about 12:05 p.m., after the man walked up to a speaker being used at the event and smashed it with the hammer, said police Lt. Benjamin Stratton.

“There were many juveniles in the park for a skate event” at the time, Stratton said.

After hitting the speaker, the man ran into a nearby home. Stratton said the man remained barricaded inside for about an hour before coming to the door. Police then apprehended him.

No one was injured.

Stratton said he did not have any information on charges that might be filed against the man.
