A Daviess County neighborhood and several businesses lost power after a driver struck a utility pole as he tried to evade sheriff’s deputies.

James Porche, 54, of Madisonville, was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, fleeing and evading police, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic device, operating on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence and a probation violation.

Daviess County sheriff’s deputies tried to stop Porche for a felony warrant near Highway 54 and Professional Park Drive, according to a news release.

Porche refused to stop and struck a utility pole at the intersection of East Parish Avenue and Leitchfield Road. The crash caused the pole to fall to the ground and disabled Porche’s car.

Deputies located 30 grams of methamphetamine inside his car, according to the news release.

Several homes and businesses lost power when Porche’s vehicle crashed into the pole. Officials did not say how many homes were affected, but the power outage lasted about three hours.

Porche was taken to a local hospital after the crash, but will be lodged inside the Daviess County Detention Center.
