A battalion chief with the Berea Fire Department has been charged with several sex crimes involving a minor.

Jonathan Kerns, 39, of Berea, was arrested Friday and charged with third-degree sexual abuse, third-degree rape and incest.

According to his arrest warrant, the abuse began when the victim was 11 and lasted for several years.

Kerns was a battalion chief with the city of Berea Fire Department, according to several media reports.

Kerns is being held at the Madison County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

His next court date is Oct. 29.
