Kentucky State Police troopers shot and killed a man in Lawrence County late Saturday evening.

Several troopers shot toward Timothy Keeton, 69, who pointed a firearm at law enforcement as they tried to serve an arrest warrant, according to state police.

Troopers were sent to a residence on KY-1715 in Martha, Kentucky, to search for a woman who had active arrest warrants for assault.

Around 11:45 p.m., the state police were confronted by Keeton who lived nearby. Keeton told troopers to turn their lights off, or he would shoot them out, according to KSP.

Keeton briefly returned to his residence before he came back with a firearm, KSP said.

Troopers ordered Keeton to put the firearm down, but he raised the firearm and aimed it in the direction of troopers, who fired their agency-issued firearms at Keeton.

Live-saving measures were performed on Keeton, who died. No other injuries were reported.

None of troopers involved in the shooting were identified.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting, according to a news release.

“To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed, and pertinent facts have been gathered,” KSP wrote in their release. “Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.”
