A Lexington firefighter has been arrested and charged in connection to a domestic violence incident in which he allegedly slammed his wife’s hand in a door.

The incident happened last week at a home on Vicksburg Drive in Jessamine County. Nicholas Baldwin, 42, was arrested Nov. 25 and charged with fourth-degree assault - domestic violence.

Baldwin has worked for the Lexington Fire Department since 2012, according to Battalion Chief Derek Roberts. He has been placed on paid administrative duty while the investigation continues.

During a 911 call placed at sometime during the incident, court documents say dispatch heard a woman say “ow” before the call ended. There were no visible marks on the woman’s hand from the assault, record indicate.

He was booked into the Jessamine County Detention Center and released from jail the same day after posting a $500 bond, according to court records.

Baldwin’s wife also filed for a domestic violence protection order Nov. 25, according to court records. An emergency protective order was entered the same day.

Baldwin is scheduled to appear in Jessamine District Court for an arraignment on the assault charge Thursday, Jan. 8, according to court records.

The fire department will also conduct an internal investigation of the incident, Roberts said.
