A second person has died following Lexington’s first fatal shooting of the new year, which occurred Thursday evening off South Broadway.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 1 in a parking lot on the 1000 block of South Broadway, according to the Lexington Police Department. Three men were shot, and one was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said Friday morning a second victim died from his injuries. The third remains in critical condition.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Marciano Jenkins, 20, of Lexington, and Julio Vazquez, 20, of Lexington. Jenkins was declared dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m., while Vazquez died at University of Kentucky Hospital at 8:42 p.m. Thursday.
