A Harlan County man will serve up to 60 years in prison after a federal jury found him guilty on two counts of child porn last fall.

Brandon Farley, 42, was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky Judge Robert Wier. Federal law requires Farley to serve at least 51 years in federal prison after testimony at trial revealed he sexually abused a minor in his care and photographed the abuse, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

He will be subject to probation for life after his release from federal prison. The 60-year sentence is the maximum Farley could face for two counts of producing child sexual abuse material.

A Harlan Circuit Court grand jury indicted Farley in 2018 on more than 70 charges related to the possession, promotion and production of child porn, plus sodomy and second- and third-degree rape charges, according to court records. Those charges were settled under the state’s felony mediation program in 2022, but the case remains open due to the federal charges.
