A Kentucky father has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his son during an argument.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the backyard of a home on Kentucky 55 South in Adair County. Kentucky State Police said in a news release Jordan Hadley, 33, of Columbia, was shot and taken to T.J. Sampson Community Hospital in Glasgow, where he later died.
Hadley’s father, Phillip Hadley, 56, of also Columbia, told police he and his son were having an argument when the shooting occurred. Court documents say the argument began earlier that day, and Jordan shoved Phillip during the encounter.
The two met up again at Phillip’s mother’s home later that day and the argument continued. Court documents say Jordan shoved Phillip twice and tried to shove him a third time before Phillip drew a gun from his waist and shot Jordan.
Phillip told police he thought his son was reaching for a gun, but no weapon was found on the victim or in the vicinity of the scene, according investigators. Phillip’s mother corroborated the story her son gave to police.
The father is being held in the Adair County Detention Center on a $1 million bond, according to jail records. He is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
