15-year-old seriously injured in Lexington shooting. Police asking for tips

A 15-year-old child was seriously injured in a shooting Wednesday in Lexington, according to the city police department.

The shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. in the 1000 block of Maywick Drive, near Lane Allen Elementary School. Police said the teen was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Later Wednesday, ONE Lexington, a city group that works to address gun violence, said the victim was stable.

“We have a relationship with the young man & have been in touch with his family,” ONE Lexington said in a Facebook post. “Please keep his friends & family in your prayers tonight.”

No suspect information was provided by police. Anyone in the area of the shooting is encouraged to check their home surveillance system for footage that could help the investigation.

Police are also asking the public for information about the shooting. People can call the police department at 859-258-3600 or submit an anonymous tip to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at 859-253-2020.
