Kentucky State Penitentiary employee accused of having sex with inmate
A Kentucky State Penitentiary employee is accused of having sex with another inmate at the prison, according to Kentucky State Police.
Alysta Mathis, 26, of Dawson Springs, is charged with third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy. Court documents describe her as a classification and treatment officer at the Kentucky State Penitentiary.
On Monday, the prison reported Mathis’ alleged behavior to state police. According to court documents, the sexual contact was captured on the prison’s surveillance system.
Officials spoke with Mathis, who did not want to talk about the allegations, according to court documents. She was arrested and booked into the Crittenden County Jail, state police said.
Mathis is being held on a $2,500 bond, according to court records. A court date has not been scheduled.
The Kentucky State Pentitentiary is the state’s only maximum security facility and houses death row inmates, according to the Department of Corrections. It’s in Eddyville, in Lyon County, and can house 856 inmates.
