Police in Frankfort have arrested a man they say was the driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 52-year-old woman Monday night.

Tyler Couch, of Frankfort, is charged with manslaughter, second-degree leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance and falsely reporting an incident, the Frankfort Police Department announced Tuesday afternoon.

The collision happened around 7:35 p.m. on an access road off U.S. 127 in Franklin County. Coroner Will Harrod said Carey Covington, of Frankfort, was pronounced dead at 8:19 p.m. at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Covington’s injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, Harrod said. An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning.

Frankfort police said the investigation led them to Couch, who was charged with falsely reporting an incident “based on statements the suspect made to law enforcement following the collision.”

Police had asked anyone in the area of the collision when it occurred, or anyone with information about the collision, to call Frankfort police at 502-875-8582.

“Your assistance is crucial in helping us bring closure to the victim’s family,” police said in a Facebook post. “Even the smallest detail could be vital to this investigation.”
