Lexington police officer charged with distributing obscene matter to a minor
A Lexington police officer has been accused of distributing obscene materials to a 17-year-old, the department confirmed Wednesday.
Officer Nathaniel Schickler was charged Wednesday, May 20, with distribution of obscene matter to a minor and tampering with physical evidence. Police said the victim is 17 years old.
Schickler has been summoned by a judge to appear in court, police said. No other details about the incident or Schickler’s court case were immediately available.
Tampering with physical evidence is a class D felony, while distribution of obscene matter to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, unless the defendant has previously been convicted of the charge, in which case it would be a class D felony. Online court records do not show a criminal history for Schickler.
Police said Schickler has been relieved of sworn duties and will work an administrative assignment while the incident is reviewed.
