Ex-KY cabinet worker indicted for $88K theft from regional licensing office
A former Kentucky Transportation Cabinet employee was arrested by state police for stealing more than $80,000 from a regional driver licensing office he managed, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.
Hunter Simmons, 33, of Tennessee, was indicted for a count of theft by unlawful taking, greater than $10,000, but less than $1 million by a Graves County grand jury May 12.
The investigation began April 13 when state police received information from the office of the inspector general reporting theft from the regional licensing office in Mayfield.
Simmons worked as a supervisor for the Mayfield and Paducah offices. He stole $88,688.50 between April 2024 and January 2026 from the Mayfield location, according to state police.
The Paducah office is still being investigated.
After his indictment was handed down May 12, Simmons was arrested by the Gibson County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office May 19.
He was extradited from Tennessee and brought to Graves County Restricted Custody Center. He posted his $5,000 bond on May 21, court documents show.
The investigation is ongoing with additional charges possible in McCracken County, KSP said.
