A Kentucky man is facing a DUI charge for the second time after he allegedly caused a fatal wreck while driving under the influence on the Cumberland Parkway.
The wreck happened around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1, on the Cumberland Parkway in Russell County, according to Kentucky State Police. Christopher Austin, 28, of Russell Springs, was driving a Kia Optima when he veered off the road and overcorrected, crossing into the path of a Jeep Cherokee driven by Maylon Brown, 60, of Russell Springs.
Austin and Brown were driving the same direction when the collision occurred. State police said Brown died at a hospital while Austin refused medical treatment at the scene.
Austin was later charged with vehicular homicide when under the influence of drugs, aggravated DUI, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving, according to state police. He is being held at the Russell County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
This is the second time Austin has been charged with DUI, state police say, but other information about his prior case was not immediately available.
