Lexington police have arrested a suspect who allegedly shot a man at a nightclub in March, according to the police department.

The shooting happened around 2:26 a.m. March 29 at the Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club on Athens Boonesboro Road. Police and court documents said a 32-year-old man was shot multiple times in the leg and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the nightclub and saw a black SUV pull in front of a vehicle occupied by the victim before the shooting. After the shooting, court documents say the vehicle fled the parking lot, and the victim was able to escape and take cover.

Two other women were in the victim’s vehicle when the shooting occurred, according to court documents.

Detectives determined that shots came from the SUV, a GMC Terrain, and identified its owner as Dairion Morgan, 33, of Richmond. Detectives identified Morgan’s GMC Terrain in the surveillance video, and placed him at the scene of the shooting through cell phone data records, according to court documents.

Morgan allegedly planned the shooting ahead of time with another man, and discussed the shooting afterward with the same man afterward, according to court documents.

On June 3, Morgan was pulled over in his GMC Terrain for a drug investigation. Court documents say officers found one pound of methamphetamine, 22.7 grams of fentanyl, nearly $3,000 in cash and a gun in the car.

Morgan is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and being a felon in possession of a handgun. He also was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl derivatives or carfentanil), buying or possessing drug paraphernalia, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, according to court records. He is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond for the shooting case and a $15,000 bond for the drug case.

Morgan’s next scheduled court appearance is June 16, according to court records.

In 2012, Morgan was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to assault under extreme emotional disturbance, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, resisting arrest and menacing in two separate court cases, according to court records.
