Bryan Station High School dean of students pleads guilty to amended charge
Bryan Station High School Dean of Students John “Jay” Bordas Jr. appeared pleaded guilty June 5 in Fayette County Circuit Court to an amended charge of menacing.
Bordas was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment in March after a Lexington man said the dean followed him home and pointed a gun at him. Bordas’ criminal attorney Christopher Wilkie said in an interview with the Herald-Leader in May that Bordas had entered a not guilty plea and that they were looking forward to a “favorable resolution” when “all of the facts come out.”
But this month, he pleaded guilty.
Bordas received a recommended sentence of 90 days, but the ruling will not be decided until Bordas’ July 10 sentencing hearing. The Department of Probation and Parole will conduct a pre-sentence investigation of Bordas and prepare a written report prior to the sentencing.
Bordas was put on administrative leave following the incident in March, though he was approved in April by the school board to attend a Las Vegas conference on learning. Former Superintendent Demetrus Liggins said Bordas would not be attending the conference if he is still on leave come July.
The Bryan Station High School website currently lists Keri Robinson as the dean of students. Fayette County Public Schools has not responded to the Herald-Leader’s email regarding Bordas’ employment status.
