A police officer in Northern Kentucky shot and killed a man after he confronted law enforcement with a knife, authorities said.

Daniel Bolinger, 37, of Crestview Hills, was shot and killed shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, according to Kentucky State Police.

The Lakeside Park-Crestview Hills Police Department responded to a home on University Circle to assist the Cabinet for Health and Family Services with an investigation.

The press release did not indicate details of the family service’s investigation.

Bolinger came out of the residence and approached officers with a knife, the press release states. Officers then fired their agency-issued weapons and killed Bolinger.

The press release did not identify the officers involved in the shooting, but none were harmed.

The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.
