Bridegroom remains hospitalized after wedding car hit by police cruiser

Newlywed Joseph Snider, a passenger in a car struck by a Lexington police cruiser Saturday night, was in fair condition Sunday evening at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Snider's bride, Amy, apparently has been released from the hospital. A UK spokeswoman said there was no patient with her name listed in the hospital directory.

The driver of the convertible in which the newlyweds were riding, Rodney C. Prothe, 44, of West Des Moines, Iowa, also was not listed in the directory, the spokeswoman said. A person at the scene of the accident said Prothe is the bride's brother.

The Sniders were riding to their wedding reception when their car was struck by a cruiser driven by Lexington police officer Justin Rowland.

The officer ran a red light on Pasadena Drive, according to police.

Rowland and a passenger in the cruiser were treated at Central Baptist Hospital and dismissed.
