Scott County middle school teacher is arrested on child-porn charges

A Scott County middle school teacher was arrested Wednesday and charged with 46 counts possessing and promoting child pornography.

Jason Carpenter was booked into the Scott County Detention Center, charged with 23 counts of promoting the sexual performance of a minor and 23 counts of possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor.

Lt. Robert Swanigan, spokesman for the Georgetown police department, said he could not discuss the case in more detail because "the investigation is actually still ongoing."

"Part of that investigation led us to where we're at right now," he said.

Swanigan said Carpenter was employed by the Scott County school system.

According to the Scott County public schools Web site, the only faculty member named Jason Carpenter is a teacher at Scott County Middle School.

Scott County school officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
