Grand jury indicts Lexington teen on murder charge in January shooting

A Fayette County grand jury indicted a Lexington teenager charged with fatally shooting a man The grand jury dismissed a case against his co-defendant.

Quante Jarod Johnson, 18, was indicted Monday on a murder charge in the death of Joseph Randolph, 48, who was shot Jan. 5 at his home on Simpson Avenue.

The grand jury dismissed a complicity to murder charge against Allen Charles-William Burgess, 19, who police have said drove Johnson to Randolph's house.

Police have said Johnson and Burgess went to Randolph's home to buy marijuana. After the shooting, they reportedly stole marijuana and fled.

Johnson has told police he shot Randolph during an attempted robbery, according to previous court testimony. Burgess's attorneys argued that Burgess had nothing to do with the shooting and did not know it was going to happen.

Johnson also was charged with tampering with evidence because he hid or disposed of the gun, according to the indictment.

Johnson is scheduled to be arraigned March 28.
