The Fayette County Coroner's office has released the name of a 2-month-old baby who died after being suffocated on Saturday.
Ava Grace McKenzie was found unresponsive by rescue personnel about 7 a.m. Saturday at a home on Huntsville Drive. She was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Lexington police have charged William Curtis McKenzie, 30, with second-degree manslaughter in her death, according to Fayette District Court documents. The records do not say whether William Curtis McKenzie and Ava McKenzie are related.
He admitted to wrapping a blanket around the baby's face, making it hard for her to breathe, according to court documents. Suffocation was the cause of death, according to a release from the Fayette County coroner's office.
