Woman and 16-year-old girl found dead in Bardstown home; police suspect foul play

The deaths of a woman and a girl in Bardstown have been ruled homicides, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

Authorities from the Elizabethtown state police post found the bodies of 48-year-old Kathy Netherland and her 16-year-old daughter, whose name was not released, at 5120 Springfield Road in Bardstown about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday. The cause of death was not released, but their deaths have been ruled homicides "based on investigations and autopsies" performed Wednesday at the state medical examiner's office in Frankfort, the release said.

WKYT-TV reported that the bodies were found by a relative who came to check on one of the victims when she failed to show up for work Tuesday.

Netherland was a teacher at Bardstown Elementary School, according to online information. Her husband died about a year ago.

State police are asking that any citizen or business located between the Botland community and Bardstown that has recorded video surveillance of Ky. 150 (Springfield Road) contact KSP Post 4 at (270) 766-5078.
