A Lexington man charged with murder in the death of a woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Paris Randall Charles is charged with murder and abuse of corpse in the slaying of Goldia Massey. The remains of Massey, 50, were found in the Kentucky River last year. Her arm was found Oct. 25, about three weeks after she was reported missing by her son. Massey's torso was found in December in Jessamine County.

Charles, 50, appeared in Fayette District Court for an arraignment via jail video. He pleaded not guilty and was appointed a lawyer by District Judge Julie Muth-Goodman.

Charles was being held in the Fayette County jail under no bond because the judge considered him a flight risk. He's scheduled to appear in court Feb. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
