Crash kills woman in Mount Sterling

A collision Wednesday at Ky. 713 and Ky. 686 in Mount Sterling killed one driver, Montgomery County Sheriff Fred Shortridge said.

An older woman driving the first vehicle did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign, and her vehicle was struck by a second vehicle, Shortridge said. The woman died at a hospital.

The driver and a passenger in the second vehicle, a woman and a young male relative, were taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, Shortridge said.

The accident closed the intersection from about 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., according to Shortridge.

"We tried when possible to open up a lane," he said. "Periodically, we had to stop all traffic."

Two witnesses' accounts of the accident matched the investigation's findings, the sheriff said.

Montgomery County Coroner Jimmy Adams said that the name and age of the woman would be released after her family is notified, and an autopsy will be conducted Thursday morning.
