Lexington man, woman arrested after getting out of moving car, leaving baby inside

A man and woman were arrested Sunday after police say they got out of a moving vehicle, leaving a baby inside.

Abigail Sargent, 25, and Joseph M. Levenson, 27, were driving a Nissan Altima on the 300 block Georgetown Street on Sunday afternoon when they got out and left their 7-month-old inside, according to a Lexington police citation.

The car was still running and in drive when the pair got out near a liquor store, and the car was rolling along the road, police said.

Sargent and Levenson had been fighting, leaving both with scratches and complaints of pain or soreness, and police were responding to a call about that when they found them and the baby.

Each was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault – domestic violence.

They entered not-guilty pleas in Fayette District Court on Monday and were scheduled for another court appearance Nov. 25.
