Powell County basketball team is subject of state police investigation

Kentucky State Police began an investigation Thursday into alleged inappropriate conduct by members of Powell County High School’s boys basketball team.

“We’re doing an investigation where some players on the basketball team were involved with some inappropriate actions,” said Master Trooper Joe Veeneman, spokesman for the state police post in Morehead.

Veeneman said he wasn’t sure whether state police would release any results of the investigation, “because my understanding is that everybody that was involved were all underage. That includes alleged victims and alleged perpetrators as well.”

Powell County Superintendent Michael Tate was not immediately available for comment Thursday afternoon.
