A man was arrested and charged with assault Tuesday after he ran from a crash and then punched a Lexington firefighter, police said.

Christopher Goodman, 23, was charged with third-degree assault and possession of synthetic marijuana, Lexington police Sgt. Ann Welch said.

Goodman ran from the vehicle he’d been riding in with Adam Ryan Ward, 23, after the car hit a pole in front of the Lexington Opera House, Welch said. Ward was charged with driving under the influence.

Goodman ran to the parking structure at 350 West Short Street, Welch said.

Someone called an ambulance to the garage for a sick case, and when firefighters arrived one of them was punched, Lexington fire Battalion Chief Joe Best said. The firefighter was uninjured.

Goodman and Ward were taken to the Fayette County jail.
