Two people were found dead of apparent gunshot wounds Wednesday afternoon at a home in Clay County, according to Kentucky State Police.
Clay County sheriff’s deputies found Leon Jackson, 64, and Shirley F. Jackson, 65, both of Manchester at the home on Burchell Road just before 1 p.m., according to state police.
The deputies found the bodies of the slain married couple after their pastor contacted Sheriff Kevin Johnson's office.
Clay County Coroner Danny Finley said the couple's pastor had not seen them for some time and went to check on them Wednesday.
When the pastor arrived, he saw Leon Jackson lying in the yard and saw blood, Johnson said.
The pastor went to the sheriff's office to report what he'd seen. Johnson and deputies went to the home and found both people in the yard.
Leon Jackson had had some health problems and was retired. Shirley Jackson had worked for many years at a nursing home, according to the sheriff.
