Man is killed, officer injured in shooting during traffic stop

A man was killed and a police officer was injured Tuesday when the two shot each other during a traffic stop in Kenton County.

Ludlow police officer Sam Hodge attempted to pull over Charles Reynolds, 61, of Ludlow about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to Kentucky State Police.

There was an exchange of gunfire between Hodge and Reynolds, according to state police. Hodge was shot in the shoulder and Reynolds was hit in the chest.

Both were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, according to state police. Reynolds later died, and Hodge was listed in stable condition.

Hodge has been with the Ludlow Police Department for one year and has been in law enforcement for about 20 years, according to state police.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
