More snow in store for parts of Central Kentucky Monday night
Road crews in Central Kentucky will have to contend with more snow Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.
While some areas got 8 inches of snow Sunday into Monday, Lexington got about 2 to 4 inches of snow, according to a weather service report.
A prediction from the weather service released about 4 p.m. Monday said 2 to 4 or more inches may fall overnight in some areas.
Western parts of the state are projected to get little to no snowfall, but the more central part of the state may get 1 to 3 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
The region looking at a possible 2 to 4 inches includes Fayette, Woodford, Franklin, Boyle, Mercer and Jessamine counties as well as several others.
Although there were slick roads reported in Lexington and Kentucky Monday morning, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported most central counties had clear roads or wet pavement by 4 p.m.
Central Kentucky road crews were scheduled to stay on duty through the afternoon and into the evening because of the uncertain forecast, according to the transportation cabinet.
In the city, Lexington police reported officers responded Monday to 27 wrecks, five involving injuries.
The Fayette County sheriff activated the Winter Care program for the day, providing assistance to people needing winter coats and blankets, checking on people’s welfare,, delivering crucial medicine and providing rides to medical appointments. Medical professionals also can get rides to work through the program.
